Corinth Canal
-
Epidaurus
-
Mycenae
-
The picturesque town of Nafplio
-
Palamidi Castle – Bourtzi
Meet in your hotel lobby this morning, where we’ll kick off our week-long adventure through mainland Greece. After a warm welcome and brief orientation, we board our private transportation and head west toward the legendary Peloponnese peninsula of Greece. Our first stop is the dramatic Corinth Canal (ticket included 15 euro each - time permitting), a narrow but spectacular waterway that slices through solid rock to connect the Aegean Sea with the Ionian Sea.
-
Completed in 1893, though the idea dates back to ancient times (even Nero attempted to dig it in the 1st century AD).
-
The canal stretches about 4 miles (6.4 km) long.
-
Its limestone walls rise nearly 300 feet (90 meters) straight up from the water.
-
Though too narrow for large modern ships, it remains an impressive engineering feat and a fantastic photo opportunity
We’ll pause here to take in the views and capture some memorable photos before continuing into the Argolis region. Next, we visit the ancient sanctuary of Epidaurus (ticket included 20 euro each), one of the most important healing centers of the ancient world, dedicated to the god Asclepius. Highlights include:
-
The magnificent Theatre of Epidaurus, built in the 4th century BC.
-
Renowned for its extraordinary acoustics — even a whisper on stage can be heard in the top rows.
-
Still in use today for summer performances during the Hellenic Festival
-
This UNESCO World Heritage site beautifully blends nature, spirituality, and classical architecture.
We then journey back even further in time to Mycenae (ticket included 20 euro each), one of the great centers of Greek civilization during the second millennium BC. According to legend, this was the kingdom of Agamemnon, leader of the Greeks in the Trojan War. Highlights include:
-
The iconic Lion Gate, Europe’s oldest monumental sculpture.
-
The massive Cyclopean Walls, so large the ancient Greeks believed giants built them.
-
The impressive Treasury of Atreus, a monumental tholos (beehive) tomb.
Walking these ruins offers a powerful glimpse into Greece’s Bronze Age past. We conclude our day in the picturesque seaside town of Nafplio, often considered one of the most beautiful towns in Greece — and the country’s first modern capital. This evening is yours to enjoy:
-
Wander the charming Old Town with its Venetian architecture and flower-lined alleys.
-
Dine at a local taverna along the waterfront.
-
Climb (or drive) up to the impressive Palamidi Castle for sweeping views over the Argolic Gulf — especially magical at sunset.
Relax, explore, and savor your first evening in the Peloponnese as we prepare for the adventures ahead.

Sparta
-
Ancient Sparta
-
Archaeological Sparta Museum
-
Archaeological Site Mystras – Village of Mystras
-
Drive to Monemvasia
After breakfast (at your own expense), we board our bus and journey south into the legendary region of Laconia, home of one of the most powerful city-states of the ancient world. Our first stop is the archaeological site of ancient Sparta, the militaristic rival of Athens and birthplace of King Leonidas and the legendary 300 Spartans. Unlike many other Greek city-states, Sparta was not adorned with grand monuments; its power lay in discipline, military strength, and social structure. The remains you’ll see today include:
-
The Ancient Theatre of Sparta (one of the largest in Greece in its time)
-
The Sanctuary of Artemis Orthia, an important religious center
-
Foundations of ancient public buildings that hint at Sparta’s former influence
Here, we explore the history of the unique Spartan political system, its rigorous military training (the agoge), and the society that shaped some of the most formidable warriors in antiquity. We continue to the Archaeological Museum of Sparta (ticket included 10 euro each), which houses important finds from the region of Laconia.
Highlights include:
-
Archaic and Classical sculptures
-
Roman mosaics
-
Votive offerings from the Sanctuary of Artemis Orthia
-
Inscriptions and artifacts illustrating daily Spartan life
The museum visit provides essential context, helping bring the ancient ruins to life. We then travel a short distance to Mystras (entry ticket included 20 euro each), a breathtaking UNESCO World Heritage Site dramatically perched on the slopes of Mount Taygetos. Founded in the 13th century by the Franks and later flourishing under Byzantine rule, Mystras became a major center of art, culture, and learning — often called the “last flowering of Byzantium.”
As we walk through this remarkably preserved medieval city, you will see:
-
The Palace of the Despots
-
Magnificent Byzantine churches adorned with vibrant frescoes
-
Monasteries still inhabited by nuns
-
Cobblestone paths winding through stone houses and fortifications
In the late afternoon, we make our way to Monemvasia, one of Greece’s most enchanting medieval towns.
Often referred to as the “Gibraltar of the East,” Monemvasia is a dramatic rock island connected to the mainland by a narrow causeway. Hidden behind massive stone walls lies a beautifully preserved Byzantine and Venetian old town. Upon arrival, you will have the evening free to explore at your own pace:
-
Wander the narrow cobbled streets
-
Visit charming boutiques and local craft shops
-
Enjoy dinner in a traditional taverna
-
Climb to the Upper Town for stunning sunset views over the Aegean Sea
Overnight in Monemvasia.

-
Kardamili – Areopoli
-
Cave Glyfada (Dirou Cave)
-
Drive to Kalamata
As the sun rises over the deep blue waters of the Mediterranean, the golden light slowly illuminates the medieval stone walls and Byzantine churches of this extraordinary “castle town.” Built on a massive rock island and hidden behind fortified walls, Monemvasia feels untouched by time. Spend the morning strolling through its narrow cobbled streets, discovering:
-
Elegant stone mansions from the Venetian period
-
The beautifully restored churches of the Lower Town
-
Small cafés tucked into centuries-old buildings
-
Local artisan shops featuring regional products and crafts
For those wishing to climb higher, the Upper Town rewards visitors with sweeping sea views and the impressive Church of Hagia Sophia perched dramatically on the cliffside. We then depart westward, driving along the rugged Mani Peninsula toward Areopoli. The historic heart of the Mani Peninsula, Areopoli played a significant role in the Greek War of Independence. Its name means “City of Ares,” the ancient god of war — a fitting tribute to the fiercely independent Maniots. Wander through the stone-paved alleys lined with restored tower houses, traditional cafés, and charming squares. The atmosphere here is authentically Maniot, with a proud local identity that remains strong to this day.
Just outside Areopoli lies one of the Peloponnese’s most remarkable natural wonders: Diros Caves. The Diros Caves (also known as Vlychada Cave) are considered among the most beautiful lake caves in the world. During your visit (entry ticket included 17 euro each), you will glide quietly by small boat through an underground world of crystal-clear waters, dramatic stalactites, and towering stalagmites formed over thousands of years. The cave system offers a unique and unforgettable experience, blending geology and mystery in a surreal setting.
We then depart northward , driving along the rugged Mani Peninsula toward the picturesque seaside village of Kardamyli. Kardamyli is one of the oldest settlements in the Mani region, mentioned by Homer in the Iliad. Today it is known for its peaceful atmosphere, crystal-clear waters, and traditional stone tower houses characteristic of Maniot architecture. A brief stop allows time to explore the old quarter, enjoy a coffee by the sea, and take in the dramatic backdrop of the Taygetos Mountains meeting the Messinian Gulf.
In the afternoon, we continue our way north along the Messinian Gulf to Kalamata. Kalamata is the vibrant capital of the Messenia region and internationally known for its world-famous Kalamata olives, celebrated for their rich flavor and distinctive almond shape. Upon arrival, check in to your hotel and enjoy the evening at leisure. You may wish to:

A morning stroll along the promenade or through the historic old town offers a final taste of authentic Messinian life before we depart. We then travel north to one of Greece’s most impressive yet lesser-visited ancient sites: Ancient Messene (entry ticket included 20 euro each). Founded in 369 BC by the Theban general Epaminondas, Ancient Messene was established as a stronghold against Spartan dominance. Unlike Sparta, this city was richly fortified and beautifully planned. Today, the site is remarkably well preserved. Highlights include:
-
The grand Ancient Theatre
-
The impressive Stadium and Gymnasium complex
-
Massive defensive fortification walls
-
The Asklepieion, a sanctuary dedicated to the god of healing
Walking through Messene feels like stepping into a fully realized ancient city, offering a vivid sense of urban life in classical Greece. We also visit the nearby Archaeological Museum of Messene, where statues, mosaics, inscriptions, and everyday objects provide deeper insight into the city's history and culture.
Continuing our journey, we cross one of Greece’s most significant modern engineering achievements:
Rio–Antirrio Bridge. This remarkable cable-stayed bridge connects the Peloponnese to mainland Greece across the Gulf of Corinth. Opened in 2004, it stands as one of the longest multi-span cable-stayed bridges in the world and represents a milestone in modern Greek infrastructure. As we cross, enjoy sweeping views of the gulf and surrounding mountains — a symbolic transition from the Peloponnese into Central Greece.
Our day concludes in the charming coastal town of Nafpaktos. Nestled along the Corinthian Gulf, Nafpaktos is known for its picturesque Venetian harbor and well-preserved castle rising above the town. The setting is both romantic and relaxed, with colorful fishing boats lining the small port and stone walls reflecting centuries of history. After checking into your hotel, enjoy time at leisure to explore:

The peaceful setting offers the perfect opportunity to savor a Greek coffee while watching the town come to life. For those who enjoy a bit of exploration, a rewarding walk leads up to the impressive Venetian Castle of Nafpaktos, one of the best-preserved fortifications in Greece. From its elevated stone walls, take in sweeping panoramic views of the Gulf of Corinth, the Rio–Antirrio Bridge in the distance, and the charming red-tiled rooftops below. The climb is well worth the breathtaking scenery and memorable photo opportunities.
Late morning, we board our comfortable coach and continue our journey toward the legendary sanctuary town of Delphi. Our scenic drive takes us along the Corinthian coastline and through the nautical gem of Galaxidi, known for its elegant captains’ mansions and maritime heritage. As we ascend into the mountains, we pass through Arachova, a lively alpine village nestled on the slopes of Mount Parnassus, famous for its traditional stone houses, vibrant textiles, and welcoming atmosphere. Arriving in Delphi in the late afternoon, you’ll immediately sense the mystical aura of this historic destination, once believed by the ancient Greeks to be the center of the world. This evening, wander the narrow streets and find a quaint taverna for a delicious Greek dinner (at your own expense) featuring regional specialties and warm hospitality. TUESDAY - MAY 4, 2027
-
The Oracle of Delphi – Museum of Delphi
-
Sanctuary Athena Pronea – Gymnasium
-
Kalambaka Village
After breakfast (at your own expense), prepare to explore the remarkable treasures of Delphi, one of the most revered sacred sites of the ancient world. Nestled dramatically on the slopes of Mount Parnassus, Delphi was once considered the center of the earth according to Greek mythology — a place where mortals sought guidance from the gods. Our visit begins at the UNESCO-listed Archaeological Site of Delphi (entry ticket included 20 euro per person), where history unfolds amid breathtaking mountain scenery. Walk the Sacred Way as pilgrims once did, passing the remains of ancient monuments and treasuries built by powerful city-states to honor the god Apollo. Stand before the majestic Temple of Apollo, where the legendary Oracle delivered her prophetic messages that shaped the decisions of kings and empires. Continuing uphill, admire the impressive Theatre of Delphi, which once hosted musical contests and dramatic performances during the Pythian Games. Those who wish may climb even higher to the stadium, where ancient athletic competitions took place, all set against sweeping views of the valley of Phocis and the shimmering Gulf of Corinth in the distance.
We then visit the renowned Delphi Archaeological Museum, home to extraordinary artifacts discovered at the site. Among its treasures is the celebrated Charioteer of Delphi, a stunning bronze masterpiece that has survived for over 2,400 years and remains one of the finest examples of ancient Greek sculpture.
Following our exploration, enjoy free time in the village of Delphi for lunch (at your own expense). After lunch we will board our coach bus for our drive to Kalambaka. We will depart Delphi and journey north through the scenic landscapes of central Greece toward the awe-inspiring region of Meteora. Along the way, rolling hills, fertile plains, and distant mountain ranges create a constantly changing panorama, offering a glimpse into the timeless beauty of the Greek countryside. As we approach Meteora, an extraordinary sight begins to emerge on the horizon — towering rock pillars rising dramatically from the earth, crowned with centuries-old monasteries seemingly suspended between heaven and land. The name “Meteora” means “suspended in the air,” and nowhere is this more fitting than in this surreal and spiritual landscape. As the day concludes, reflect on the profound history and spiritual legacy of this extraordinary place — a destination where mythology, archaeology, and natural beauty come together in unforgettable harmony. Overnight in Kalambaka.

WEDNESDAY - MAY 5, 2027
-
The Monasteries of Meteora
Begin the final day with a delicious Greek breakfast (at your own expense) before boarding the bus for our visit to Meteora (entry tickets included 5 euro per person per monastery). Our visit includes 2 of the historic monasteries that form the renowned Meteora monasteries , a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most breathtaking religious complexes in the world. Built by monks seeking solitude and divine connection beginning in the 14th century, these monasteries were once accessible only by rope ladders and pulleys.
Depending on the day’s schedule, we will enter selected monasteries such as the majestic Great Meteoron Monastery, the largest and oldest of the complex, or the beautifully preserved Varlaam Monastery, known for its remarkable frescoes and panoramic terraces. Inside, admire intricate Byzantine icons, hand-painted frescoes, ancient manuscripts, and chapels that reflect centuries of devotion and resilience. Beyond their spiritual significance, the monasteries offer sweeping views across the Thessalian plain — a photographer’s dream and a truly humbling experience.
After our visits to the selected Monasteries, we will board our coach bus for our return trip to Athens. Overnight in Athens.
